Day-by-Day 11-Day Morocco Itinerary from Casablanca

01

DAY 01 - Fes → Middle Atlas → Cedar Forest → Ziz Valley → Merzouga

Your English-speaking driver will pick you up from your hotel in Fes at 8:00 AM. You will begin your remarkable journey south in a 4x4 vehicle, exploring the beautiful landscapes of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in Ifrane, known as “Little Switzerland” for its skiing-type architecture and fresh mountain air, and then continue on to the cedar forests near Azrou, with its famous Barbary macaques for some wonderful wildlife experience.

Stop for lunch in Midelt, a small town between mountains. After lunch, the road takes you through the Ziz Valley, known for its famous palm trees and fortified kasbahs, which offer great opportunities for photographs. You will pass through Erfoud, known for its fossils and workshops where local artists carve stones containing marine fossils. You will arrive in Merzouga on the edge of the Sahara Desert by late afternoon, where you will check into your accommodations and prepare for your desert experience.

02

DAY 02 - Desert Excursion → Nomadic Culture → Khamlia Village → Camel Trekking and Desert Camp

Kick off your day by discovering the Sahara Desert, and stop at a local mineral mine to gain insight into the region's geology. Then, head to the village of Khamlia to meet some of the locals who are known for playing Gnawa music. While visiting, sip mint tea as you listen to them play music and tell stories about their culture and ancestry.

You will have the opportunity to visit some hidden oases and a small desert Berber village and meet some nomadic families to learn more about their traditional way of life. In the afternoon, you will ride camels across the high Erg Chebbi dunes. As the sun sets and you get settled into your desert camp, relax with a Berber dinner served by the campfire. You will sleep beneath the stars while you gaze into the heavens and hear the quietness of the desert.

  • Drive: Marrakech to Ouarzazate - approx. 200 km (around 4-5 hours)
03

DAY 03 - Merzouga → Rissani → Todra Gorge

Awake early to experience the desert sunrise, with a warm golden light dancing across the dunes. After the camel ride back to Merzouga for breakfast, you will begin the journey north to the Todra Gorge.

From Merzouga, you will travel to Tinghir and continue to the Todra Gorge, where sheer limestone cliffs rise above crystalline water. The Todra Gorge is a destination known for climbing, hiking, and photography. To give you time to explore, we can go for a walk in the valley or simply relax and enjoy the views for a few hours. We will spend the night at a comfortable hotel or kasbah at the heart of the gorge.

  • Drive: Tangier to Casablanca - approx. 338 km (around 4-5 hours)
04

DAY 04 - Todra Gorge → Ziz Valley → Middle Atlas → Fes

After breakfast, you will depart from Todra Gorge and retrace your route through Ziz Valley. Stop along the route for views and tea in the palm trees, and you should see Berber villages with tents in the fields and/or clay stone houses.

Drive through the cedar forest of the Middle Atlas Mountains, where you can stop to help feed Barbary macaques (where they are found). Stop for coffee in Ifrane, and then continue back to Fes. You will arrive in the late afternoon, marking the end of your adventure in the Moroccan desert.
