Experience a memorable 3-day tour from Fes to Merzouga that takes you out of the historic spiritual center of Morocco, the Medina of Fes, and into the country’s varied landscapes. You will begin your journey with a drive through the cedar forests and the beautiful Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in Azrou to see the wild Barbary macaques. You will witness beautiful gorges, visit traditional Berber villages, and learn about the true nomadic lifestyle during your tour.
The best part of the tour will be a magical camel trek into Morocco’s beautiful Sahara Desert, culminating in an overnight stay in a desert camp under the stars. We have designed this itinerary to combine adventure, cultural exploration, and breathtaking natural beauty, creating an unforgettable experience.
Start your adventure with an early pickup from Fes, and make your way south into the lovely Middle Atlas Mountains for a scenic journey through the cedar forests of Azrou and Ifrane. Here, spot the endemic Barbary monkeys in their natural habitat with excellent photos. Enjoy a local lunch in a traditional village by the river and mountainous scenery. Observe the simple and frugal lifestyle of the nomadic people tending to their animals.
Continue through the small village of Rich and onward to Imilchil to spend the night at a local hotel and have a nice dinner!
Following a delicious local breakfast, you will drive to the stunning Todra Gorge. Stroll, walk under the towering vertical cliffs on either side of you, and enjoy the incredibly clear waters of the river. As you exit the gorge, you’ll see traditional adobe Berber villages and fertile oases hinting that you are getting closer to the desert. You will stop to take pictures and enjoy the scenery through Tinjdad, Jorf, and Erfoud, where the Saharan oasis of Tafilalet is located.
Finally, you will arrive at Merzouga, and your camels will be waiting to take you on a magical two-hour ride over the Erg Chebbi dunes. You will stop to enjoy the sunset from the highest dune before returning to your desert camp for dinner. After a delightful traditional Berber dish, you'll be entertained by live local music under a beautiful star-filled sky that stays with you forever.
You will rise early for the desert sunrise and admire the changing colors over the dunes. You'll ride camels back to Merzouga to freshen up and enjoy your breakfast. You'll then start driving back to Fes along a scenic route through the beautiful Ziz Valley and the town of Midelt. Your drive continues through Azrou's cedar forests, and you will arrive back in Fes early evening to end your desert adventure that you will never forget.
