Day 1: Tangier-Rif Mountain, Chefchaouen

We begin your 8-day Morocco tour in Tangier by picking you up from your hotel, the airport, or the port. Tangier is often called “the bride of the north.” The city is located northwest, where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean off Cape Spartel.

First, we will explore the beautiful city, including Hercules’ Cave and Cape Spartel—enjoy some free time for lunch. Then we head inland to Chefchaouen, bypassing Tetouan and the Rif Mountains. We’ll take a moment to appreciate the panoramic views. Finally, we will drop you off at your accommodation. You will spend the night at a riad in Chefchaouen.

Day 2: Chefchaouen, Volubilis, Meknes and Fes

After breakfast, explore the beautiful alleys of the blue city of Chefchaouen. Then we drive to the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in excellent condition. Beautiful mosaics are scattered throughout, complemented by ancient pillars and archways.

After exploring the ruins, we drive 30 kilometers to Meknes imperial city, the Ismaili capital. We visit Bab Al-Mansour, the Sahrij Souani Basin, the Royal Stables, the Granary, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. Then we travel to Fes. Overnight stay at a riad.

Day 3: Fez Guided tour

After breakfast, a driver will pick you up from your Fes hotel to start your sightseeing tour. Fes serves as Morocco’s cultural and religious hub and is an imperial city.

We begin the day by visiting the Royal Palace Gate. UNESCO has designated the well-preserved medieval Medina as a World Heritage Site. The Blue Gate, also known as Bab Boujloud, marks the entrance to the old Medina. You will enter the Medina with a local guide.

We will visit the Medrasa Bouanania, the Najjarine Fountain, the tanneries, and the Quaraouin Mosque and University, the world’s oldest university.

After this, we will explore the Jewish quarter known as “the Mellah.” Then we drive to an ancient fortress with panoramic views of the Medina and Fes before returning to the riad.

Day 4: Fes Ifrane, Midelt, Ziz Valley, Erfoud, Merzouga Desert, camel ride

After breakfast, the 8-day Morocco tour continues south via the Middle Atlas Mountains. We will travel to Ifrane, known for its cold temperatures, snowfall, and alpine-style architecture. It’s not surprising that Ifrane is called “the Switzerland of Morocco.”

Then we head to the cedar forest, home to Barbary macaques. Feel free to feed them while wandering through the forest. Later, we will travel to Midelt for some free time for lunch. Then we drive through the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and down the Ziz Valley, stopping for panoramic views.

In the afternoon, we arrive in the Sahara Desert of Merzouga. Switch to camels and ride through the sandy desert, pausing to take in the sunset atop a tall dune. Then proceed to the camp, which features nomadic tents with hotel-style amenities.

Enjoy the Berber drum music while dancing around the campfire under the starry sky. Accommodation is included.

Day 5: Merzouga Desert, Rissani, Todra Gorge, and Dades Valley

Wake up early to see the stunning sunrise—enjoy free time for breakfast. Then we leave the desert to visit Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet. Rissani remains a major trading center in the region. The bustling souk comes alive on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

After strolling through the lively Rissani Souk, we travel to Erfoud to visit one of the fossilized marble workshops. Then we drive through the Touroug and Tinjdad palm groves to the Todra Gorge. The Todra River has carved a grand canyon through the mountains. This high red canyon with cliff walls is ideal for rock climbers. Feel free to wander through the gorges and enjoy the scenery. We have some free time for lunch at a nearby restaurant.

Then we head to the Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades. The journey stops near the well-known “monkey fingers” rock formation atop a mountain, which offers a breathtaking view of the Dades Valley—dinner and overnight at a hotel.

Day 6: Dades Valley, Kasbah Amridil , Ait Ben haddou Kasbah, and Marrakech

After breakfast, we continue to Kalaa Magouna to see the Rose Valley. Each May, the Rose Valley hosts the Rose Festival. Locals display their rose-related products, including perfumes, rose water, oil, and cosmetics. We then drive through Skoura’s palm groves to visit the Amridil Kasbah.

Next, we travel to Ouarzazate to explore the studios that have hosted famous film productions. Also, visit the Taourirt Kasbah. Then we head to the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has appeared in several films, including Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, and television shows.

After that, we visit Telouet Kasbah. Then we continue to Marrakech via the Tizi-N-Tichka Pass and the High Atlas Mountain. We will stop at interesting places for lunch and photos. We’ll spend the night in a riad in Marrakech.

There’s some free time for lunch near Jemaa El-Fna Square.

Amazing Morocco 8 day trip

Ibrahim created a memorable private tour for us. We provided the dates and number of days we wanted to spend, and we got a detailed itinerary back. From there, we were able to make tweaks and research the suggested riads to customize our experience in Morocco.

Idir was our driver, and we were very impressed by his attention to detail and care for us. While we didn’t also travel with a guide, he provided a lot of history and tips that allowed us to better enjoy our stops. He is a very safe driver and has a proficient grasp of English and a sense of humor!

All in all, we were thrilled with our bucket list experience, especially the camel ride, Desert Camp, and the sunrise and sunset experience. A friend highly recommended Morocco Camel Trekking to us.

Best 8 days tour from Tangier to Marrakech

My wife and I booked this bucket-list 8-day trip in Morocco with Ibrahim. We were lucky to have Idir as our guide/driver in a comfortable SUV. He was kind and knowledgeable. He helped us buy Moroccan wine, tagines, and dates. He shared stories from his family and his early years in Erfoud, close to the desert. He introduced us to “desert blues” music. He also took many lovely pictures and surprised us with his reggaeton playlist! He was an excellent driver. Our trip started in Tangier.

We stopped in Chefchaouen, Fes, and Merzouga desert (with Sahara glamping). Then we visited Dades Valley before ending in Marrakech. The accommodations were very good, especially Riad Cherifa (Chefchaouen). Morocco, its people, culture, and landscapes were magical. Many thanks to Idir, Ibrahim, and the team for this wonderful holiday.
