We start our 4-day tour in Agadir. We drive up into the Atlas Mountains to the town of Taroudant. It is often called “Little Switzerland” due to its medieval walls. We then go to Taliouine. It’s famous for saffron. Then, we go to Taznakht. It’s famous for its carpets and rugs. We then cross to the High Atlas range. We visit the fortress ksar of Ait Benhaddou. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. It’s a famous spot used by film producers and directors.
After lunch, we go to the Hollywood of Africa: Ouarzazate. We will visit a film studio. It has sets used in blockbusters like Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and Cleopatra overnight in a riad.
From Ouarzazate, we leave the mountains and find our first oasis. Skoura is a palm grove with many hidden kasbahs. The landscape changes again until we reach the Valley of the Roses. It has rose-colored kasbahs and fields lined with Damascus roses. This is a fertile river valley called the Dades. It feeds all the small fields of crops, fruits, and vegetables. We continue along this road to Tinghir. Then, we go up into the Todra Gorge. We stop for lunch in this vertically walled canyon.
In the afternoon, we turn south through more oases. They are filled with date palms, adobe houses, and towns like Erfoud and Rissani. Then, we find ourselves in the vast open landscapes of the Sahara and the town of Merzouga.
Our camels will be waiting for us. They will take us into the golden dunes to watch the sunset and to our camp for the night. In Erg Chebbi, you will live as nomads. You’ll eat dinner and listen to music around a campfire and the starry sky above you. The silence and peace will surround you.
Wake up early and you can see the magic of a desert sunrise. It’s a special time and a memory you will always remember. We return by camel to the hotel for breakfast and to freshen up.
Our adventure continues. We discover the market town of Rissani and the desert towns of Alnif and N´Kob with their beautiful kasbahs. We will stop for lunch here. In the afternoon, we’ll take the off-road option to meet the mighty Draa Valley. It has a vast palm oasis and an ancient lifestyle. In the ksar of Agdz, we will spend the night on the edge of the Draa Valley.
The last day of the desert tour from Agadir to the Sahara desert of Erg Chebbi. We drive from Agdez to Marrakech. We go via the Anti-Atlas and Tizi-n-Tinfifte (1660m). Once in Ouarzazate, we visit the kasbah of Tifoultoute. It was the home of the Pasha of Marrakech and a symbol of the feudal lords of Atlas.
Afterward, we drive to Marrakech and cross the High Atlas Mountains. We arrive in Marrakech by the end of the afternoon. At the end of our 4 days.
