Day 01: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Benhaddou Kasbah – Dades Valley
Begin your 4 days desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga desert with a simple pickup from your hotel, riad, or other place in Marrakech. Leave the city and head southeast into the High Atlas Mountains. You will discover stunning Berber villages and have the opportunity to snap great photos of some beautiful views.
Enjoy a great meal in Ait Ben Haddou village, where you can also explore the old Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. Since 1987, UNESCO has designated this unique fortified town as an important cultural site. It has even appeared in well-known films like Prince of Persia, Gladiator, and the popular television series Game of Thrones.
After a short journey to Ouarzazate, we will stop at Africa’s largest studio if you want to see it. Then, travel to Dades Gorge, passing through the picturesque Valley of Roses. Before we head to your accommodation for the night, you will get the opportunity to witness spectacular rock formations (known as monkey fingers) as well as a panoramic view of the Gorge and valley.
Day 02: Dades Gorges, Todra Gorge , Erfoud and Merzouga Desert
Begin your day with a delicious breakfast that sets the tone for the thrilling adventures to come. Begin a magnificent drive along the beautiful Dades and Todra Rivers, which are bordered by verdant palm groves and traditional Berber villages. Your first visit will be to the spectacular Todra Gorge in Tinghir, which is known as one of the world’s most breathtaking canyons. Following this, your adventure takes you to the spectacular Merzouga desert.
On the journey to Merzouga’s Erg Chebbi dunes, our professional driver/guide will recommend a stop at a traditional Berber shop. You can try on Berber clothing and snap photos here for free. If you like, you can buy desert-themed scarves or souvenirs. However, you are not required to purchase anything if you do not want to. The shop’s primary purpose is to exhibit and educate visitors about Berber culture. If you do not want to go to the shop, simply inform the guide, and we will continue without stopping there.
When you arrive in Merzouga, prepare for an incredible camel trek into the heart of the desert. When the sun sets behind the sand dunes, take in the lovely scenery and attempt the enjoyable activity of sandboarding. As the night progresses, retreat to a beautiful desert tent for a great dinner. You will experience the magic of the desert at night, making you feel like you are a part of its unique appeal that has existed for a very long time.
Day 03: Merzouga Desert Tour – Camel Trek and night in the desert camp
An early morning wake-up is a terrific way to start the day. A close sand dune offers a breathtaking view of the sunrise. Following a delicious breakfast at the camp, your journey to the Merzouga desert will begin. We have a customized 4×4 SUV that will transport you to meet the Berber Nomads that live beyond the sand dunes. They will show you how they live and explain their distinct culture. You will also visit a small hidden village called Mefis, listen to Gnawa music in Khamlia, and view the Lake of Birds if it is full.
After lunch, we’ll go to your riad, where you can check in and relax. During this time, you can choose whether to swim or walk to the adjacent sand dunes. Later in the evening, you will eat dinner and then spend the night at your riad. Remember that you can spend another night at the desert camp if you like.
Day 04: Merzouga Sahara Desert Ouarzazate, High Atlas Mountains, Marrakech
After a delicious breakfast at your riad, we will begin our journey back to the bustling city of Marrakech. This time, we will travel across the Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest valley. During this drive, we will stop in Agdez to take in the panoramic vista of this palm-tree-filled valley.
On the journey, we’ll have the opportunity to stop in Ouarzazate for a delicious lunch. After that, our trip will take us back through the spectacular High Atlas mountains on our way to Marrakech. This 4 day Marrakech to Merzouga desert trip will conclude with a drop-off at your Accommodation.
