The 5-day Morocco desert tour begins with an early pickup from the airport or your hotel in Marrakech. Then drive through the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi-N-Tichka Pass. We will take a break to enjoy the panoramic views of the breathtaking landscapes.
Following that, we will visit the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. UNESCO designated this fortified village as a World Heritage Site.
Furthermore, the Kasbah has appeared in numerous films, such as Gladiator, Alexander, and The Mummy. There are also television series, such as Game of Thrones. Then we travel to Ouarzazate, also known as “The Gate of the Desert.” We have dinner and spend the night at a hotel.
After breakfast, we explore Ouarzazate. Initially, we explore the Atlas Studios, the home of numerous renowned films, followed by a visit to the Taourirt Kasbah, an ancient fortified mud castle. We then head towards Agdz and join the Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river. We’ll drive along it, stopping to take in panoramic views of palm groves, spectacular Kasbahs, and Berber villages. We’ll have some free time to eat lunch in either the Berber village of Nkob or Alnif.
After lunch, we travel to Merzouga Sahara via Rissani. When we reach the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, we’ll switch to camels to cross the Sahara desert. We’ll stop at the top of a large dune to watch the stunning sunset. Then proceed to the camp, which combines traditional berber tents with hotel-style amenities. In the campsite, you can listen to Berber drum music while dancing around the campfire under the open sky of shining stars. Dinner and overnight stay at the campsite in a Berber tent.
Waking up early in the morning is essential for viewing the stunning sunrise in the middle of the desert. Free time for breakfast. Then you ride camels back to Merzouga, where your driver waits for you. We spend the day exploring the region of Merzouga. There are many incredible sites in the area, including sand dunes, wild lakes, and mines, as well as fossil areas and fabulous oases.
We begin our journey in Merzouga by driving off-road to an ancient eyeliner mine. Then we pay the Berber nomads a visit in their hand-woven tent. Drink Berber tea and learn about their way of life.
Our next stop is Khamlia village, where you can enjoy Gnaoua music and dancing performances. Its inhabitants come from sub-Saharan African countries such as Mali, Sudan, and Niger. We have some free time to eat lunch at a nearby restaurant (Berber Pizza). Following that, we stroll through the palm trees.
Then drive a few kilometers to see the wild lake of Merzouga, also known as Flamingo Lake. Dinner and overnight At a hotel.
After breakfast, we leave the desert to visit Rissani, Tafilalet’s ancient capital. Rissani remains a major trading center in the region, with a thriving souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. After a stroll through Rissani Souk, we continue to Erfoud to visit one of the fossilized marble workshops.
Then we drive through the Berber villages of Touroug and Tinjdad palm groves to get to the Todra Gorges. The Todra River has carved out a grand canyon through the mountains, resulting in a high, red, cliff-sided canyon. These gorges are ideal for rock climbing. Feel free to wander through the gorges and enjoy the scenery. We have some free time to eat lunch at a nearby restaurant.
Then we head to the Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades. It eventually comes to an end at the “monkey fingers” rock formation. The journey culminates at the peak of a mountain, providing a breathtaking view of the Dades Valley. Lastly, enjoy dinner and spend the night at a hotel.
On the final day of your Morocco desert tour, we travel to Kalaa Magouna to explore the Rose Valley. The Rose Festival takes place there every May. Locals sell a variety of rose products, including perfumes, rose water, oil, and cosmetics.
Next, our journey takes us past numerous Kasbahs, such as Amridil Kasbah, encircled by the Skoura palm trees grove. We arrive in Ouarzazate with enough time to have lunch in town. Then we drive to Marrakech via the Tizi-N-Tichka Pass and the High Atlas Mountains. Finally, we will drop you off at your hotel or the airport in Marrakech. End of the 5 days desert tour.
